Website design

Example site design

Your website is an online sales and marketing tool for your business, and at Web42 we believe the keys to good web design are simple, easy-to-use sites that promote and reinforce your business brand and style.

All visitors to your website should easily be able to see who you are, what you do, and how to navigate your site within seconds of arriving. Unique web design, based around your existing logos, colours, and marketing materials if required, will help visitors to recognise and remember your brand.

Despite what many people may tell you, the best websites are not necessarily those with the prettiest graphics, flashy animations, and all sorts of other bells and whistles. At the end of the day your customer has come to your site to find out more information about you and your business. Think about the sites you use the most, Google, Amazon, or eBay perhaps? Each of these has a simple consistent design that makes the purpose of the site and its content the primary focus.

Site content

The content is the most important aspect of your site and the design is simply there to help visitors find the information they want quickly and easily whilst maintaining your branding and style.

When people visit your site, the primary aim is to convince them to take action: buy something, contact you, read more, visit you etc. The 'secret' to this is words, i.e. the content of your site.

When many businesses decide to get a website they start by looking at the design (images, themes, and colour schemes), they think they need to use all the latest technologies with their focus being on the visual and the interactive elements of the site. However the words are the most important factor, they will have the biggest impact on the success of your site.

As part of our web design and development process we will provide you with hints and tips on creating good content, and this should be your main focus, we will take care of the rest.

Choosing a web designer

When selecting a web designer (either an individual or a company) you should consider their target market and position within their own area of expertise. At Web42, our key market is amongst small businesses and self employed individuals in Sussex, Kent, and Surrey.

We offer a bespoke website design service that is tailored to your requirements, but if all you want is a cheap website design based around a standard template (with minimal customisation options) and you are not too concerned about quality then we are not what you are looking for. Similarly, if you need a large web design agency to provide you with a complex database driven site using unique functions and features we are probably not for you either.

Note that larger agencies are naturally unlikely to provide their smaller projects the same standard of service and attention as they would to their major clients (but still charge the same fee). As all of Web42's web design projects are at the smaller end of the scale, they all become the main focus of our attention.
